Getting Started

Q: What is Breakaway?

A: Breakaway is a narrative driven football (soccer) turn-based electronic game. The football season has begun and you decide to try out for the best team in town. As the season goes on, however, conflict among the players threatens your team’s ability to work together, and you must decide where you stand. To learn more about the story and your teammates, head over to the Breakaway features page.

Q: Do I have to pay to play Breakaway?

A: No, Breakaway is completely free to play! A steady internet connection is required.

Q: Can I play Breakaway in a different language?

A: Breakaway will be offered in three languages; English, French and Spanish. Additional languages are in development as well.

Q: Why do I have to answer questions to progress with the game?

A: Some of these questions are for the Beta release. All questions are used to help us improve Breakaway as we prepare for the official launch of Chapter One in June 2010. This is your chance to help us build a better game. These questions will be removed from the game as the episodes are released to the world.

Q: Why isn’t the game loading?

A: Do you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player? If not, click here to download it. If problems continue, you can email for additional help.

Q: I forgot my password and/or username.

A: On the login screen, click on the “Forget your information?” button. On the following screen, enter your email address (and your username, if you know it). Shortly after, an email will be sent to your inbox containing your username and password.

Q: How do I save my progress in Breakaway?

A: Breakaway saves automatically during the narrative.

Playing the Narrative

Q: Why can’t I use the back button after certain points in the story?

A: Once you make a decision, you cannot go back and change it. Otherwise, you are able to go back and reread dialogue.

Q: Can I replay an episode once I have completed it?

A: While you can replay training mini-games and football matches, you cannot replay the narrative portion of the episode once it is completed. However, you may create a new character or delete a saved character to experience the story from the beginning again.

Game Launch and Chapter Release

Q: How many episodes will Breakaway feature?

A: Breakaway will feature 14 episodes. Episodes are grouped into separate chapters. Chapter one will launch at the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Q: How many chapters will there be?

A: There will be six chapters in total.

Q: When can I play the next chapter of Breakaway?

A: The next chapter of Breakaway will be released towards the end of this year. Keep on the lookout for updates!

Customization and Game Mechanics

Q: Can I change the color of my jersey during the game?

A: No, jersey color is chosen at the character creation screen and cannot be changed after that. Potentially when later episodes are released, you will be able to by going to Options or Profile menus.

Q: What are Special Moves?

A: Special Moves are abilities that can be used in the mini-games and game matches to help you get a decisive edge over the opposing team. There are over 20 to be learned through the course of the game.

Q: How do I learn Special Moves?

A: Special Moves are obtained by training with your teammates. Each of your teammates can teach you a special move. As your stats improve throughout the episodes, you will gain access to better versions of the specials moves.

Q: Why won't one of my teammates train with me?

A: Everyone on your team has an opinion of you and the choices you make in the game. Just like in life, you will not be able to please everyone at once, and as a result, you will not be able to train with everyone in the game.

Q: What difficulty setting should I start at?

A: Breakaway does not have a difficulty setting. The game will scale to become better matched with your skills as you improve and progress through the game.

Q: What happens if a match ends in a tie?

A: If a match ends in a tie, a Shoot-Out will occur. In a Shoot-Out, you are given three chances to score goals. You must score two of three goals to win the match. If you do not, then you will lose the match.

Q: How are stats used in Breakaway?

A: Stats determine your efficiency in certain areas of the game. The better your stats are, the better you become during scrimmages and matches. Also, by increasing your stats, you gain access to better special moves.

Q: How do I improve my stats?

A: To raise your stats you must train in the related mini-game. You can train with teammates from the Locker Room at any time.

Q: How come my stats won’t increase anymore?

A: Stats can only be improved a certain amount each episode. You can raise them further as you play more episodes.
