OUR TEAM

Programmers are the ones who breathe life into the game, allowing for all of our button presses and choices made to appear and be acted out on screen through the character. Meet some of the dedicated individuals who made it possible for BREAKAWAY to be played!

While working on the project I had the role of lead programmer. The first 4 months I was on the project I helped create the code architecture and coded prototypes. The next 4 months I was more in charge of making sure the programming team knew where it was going and keeping everything moving smoothly. I would communicate the needs of the programming team to the rest of the team and vice-versa. I personally found this role change a bit odd transition because it was in a way a completely new role but I enjoyed it.

While working on this project I have worked in a variety of environments. I developed the game at the EMC. I was part of play testing on three different occasions: twice in Vermont and once in St. Lucia. I went on a trip to New Jersey where we did everything with discus work with others to record specs on computers. I have worked in Hotel rooms coding through the night. But what sticks out to me, just as much as the work I did, was how I had fun every minute no matter where I was or what I was doing.

I experienced the programming team grow from a team of three to a team three times as large. I experienced a five hour long meeting where I saw some of the best communication I have ever seen occur and some large decisions made. I worked side by side with another programmer as we both were trying to learn something new.

As a team, we had meetings where we would talk about such large issues. But all the while know full well that we were going to handle them. I don’t know if there was ever at time where someone at a meeting asked if what we were doing was possible. The question was never can we do this? It was how should we do it? Ideas got thrown around and decisions were made. Everyone knew what the goal was and we have been making steps to reach that goal since before I was even on the project.

My favorite aspect of this game is the game itself. A lot of different organizations are trying to achieve the same goal as us but most of them are targeted towards females. Our game on the other hand is targeting young males through a soccer game which in my opinion is really innovative.

My name is Alex Tabor. I’m 22 years old, a Game Programmer and have worked on the project for 7 months. First I want to thank you for checking out our game “BREAKAWAY?. This is the first fully produced game that I have worked on as a programmer. I have been working alongside very talented, bright and determined people to bring you the best experience you could possibly have in gaming!

I became involved with the project in October 2009 and have been the lead programmer since January 2010. My first task was to create some of the mini-games within “BREAKAWAY?. As the lead programmer I continued some work on the mini-games, and I had gained the additional responsibility to help schedule and assign tasks to the programming team, as well as communicating the progress of the project to the other programmers and informing the other leads how the programming was progressing. Furthermore, I was honored by being part of a presentation to the United Nations on our project. Finally, I also worked on the character customization and the sound manager.

I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as we enjoyed creating it for you!

I basically play the role of 'general mechanic' on the programming team. Whether it's game programming, website development, database communication, or bug testing, I jump in wherever the team needs me to.

I never imagined that I would be involved with a project of this magnitude so early in my life. It's been an amazing experience, and I'm so glad to be a part of something that is changing the world in a positive way. I honestly wouldn't trade it for anything.
